This isn't the place . . .
of happily ever after.
Where dreams all come true
and your life's filled with laughter.

Things don't follow your plan . . .
there are detours and stalls .
Changes, suprises and
voices that call.

This one you answer . . .
that one you don't.
Or perhaps you just took
a turn of your own.

How many tears have you shed . . .
How much time spent since your birth?
all in a struggle to make 'heaven'
from the soil of this earth?

It won't happen, I know, . . .
and as hard as you try,
your days and your years . . .
they will go flying by.

If you awaken each morning hoping
it's in heaven you live . . .
There's no way you can face
what that day has to give.

Yes, there is such a place . . .
but, it isn't here.
Where there is no sorrow
and loved ones are near.

But, for today and tomorrow
you and I must face . . .
that this is the earth,
not a 'heavely' place.

Hearts and promises are broken.
Lives are tossed to and fro.
Peace comes but in glimpses . . .
as the winds swirl and blow.

This is but a moment in time . . .
and my hope is not dimmed.
For beside me, as I travel . . .
I walk each road next to Him.

So, when you feel life is winning,
remember who's waiting there.
Even though this isn't heaven . . .
He helps us, this life to bear.
